pregnancy & labor / Baby Riley
This afternoon my parents, Salinger, and I went on a walk through Biscayne National Park and enjoyed the perfect weather we’ve been having. We had a little picnic and Sal was loving all the new smells and other doggies.
Through the day, Riley didn’t move much at all. Around 3pm was the only time I felt her moving in there. It was about 6pm and I had just eaten and she still wasn’t stirring. I’m not a paranoid person at all but, the last three days I’ve felt like she’s moved less and less. I wasn’t feeling nervous, anxious, or afraid… my intuition just said to call the midwife and see what she thought. She suggested I go to the hospital just in case. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry so I went.
Her heartbeat was fine but it was pretty flat (as in not spiking with movement). So she didn’t move for about 40 min. or so and they kept me on the monitor. I had a few contractions, nothing unusual. They had me drink some cold water and I got an ultrasound, Riley moved a bit and everything looked great.
I went back to the room, got hooked up to the monitor again and she was definitely awake— moving and kicking and the heart rate was reflecting all the changes. I had a few more contractions. My mom and I got the giggles because I said, “ET phone home” with the glowing red monitor on my finger. Then the baby’s heart was going wild, like a ticking bomb, and I looked at my mom and made an explosion sound and we died laughing. My dad was texting us from the waiting room funny things about how crazy the people in there were.
It took about 3 hours all together and I was sort of sorry I dragged my parents out for nothing but, I think I did the right thing. I now know what a contraction feelings like. I also know that my girl is safe and healthy still, just likes to rest and relax. I’m so tired and this post was kind of boring but, I felt like I needed to document it. kthnx.

You certainly did the right thing! And remember, she’s starting to run out of room in there, so it’s harder for her to wiggle around!
